Admitted (new) Student Checklist
Step 1: Complete a .
Step 2: Send a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility or a snapshot of your VA Education benefits summary from VA.gov to veterans@american.edu
Step 3: Meet with your academic advisor to create an academic plan
Step 4: Register for classes! This Step must be completed before submitting your Request for Certification
Step 5: Complete a Request for Certification form. This serves as your request to use VA Education Benefits for the upcoming semester.
Step 6: If applicable, complete a Yellow Ribbon Application
Step 7: Review your bill at Eagle Service and note what portion of your bill will not be covered by VA Education Benefits
Step 8: Waive your health insurance if you are already covered under a Health Insurance plan (VA or Disability health coverage) and are attending AU full-time.
Step 9: Set up a so you can receive all portions of your VA Education benefits.
Returning Student Checklist
