Venture to Volunteer at American University, Center for Leadership and Community Engagement

What is Venture to Volunteer? Start Life at AU by Volunteering in the City, Together!

Venture to Volunteer (V2V) is a multi-day experience for first-year and transfer students that blends non-profit service with exploration of DC neighborhoods, history and culture. This event has previously been known as Explore DC (EDC).

It's a chance to get to know your new city - from learning the logistical ropes (like transportation and food), to engaging with issues faced by community members (and the ways they're making a difference), to first-hand experience of DC's rich cultural, historical and community resources. A long-time AU tradition, it's part of AU All American Welcome and sponsored by CLCE. There's no better way to start life at AU!

Participants moved in early, and participated in their four days of programming.

  • August 17 - Move-in and check-in for Venture to Volunteer.
  • August 18 - Welcome Ceremony and community visits with their group, then the Salsa Workshop and Dance Party in the evening.
  • August 19 - Non-LLC students participated in their service activity, then in the evening the Community Partner Panel.
  • August 20 - LLC students participated in their service activity, then the Closing Ceremony in the evening followed by the Student Service Panel.
