Connect and Give Back
Not sure what you can do, but know you want to give back?
You can always email SIS Career to express interest and learn more about opportunities to support SIS students!
Mentor
The SIS Mentoring Program is offered through the SIS Office of Career Development and connects students with alumni mentors for one academic year. Our volunteer mentors help students explore post-graduation pathways, learn how to create networks that support their goals, and move towards their next professional steps. Meet amazing current students and give back to your community by volunteering to be an alumni Mentor.
Share your expertise
Do you have experience in a niche topic or interesting area? Do you want to share your expertise with current students? Are you ready to give back but not sure where you can start?Â
Let us know and we can help you find the best fit to participate in one of our programs. Offer insights on an alumni panel, table a booth at the Career Fair, meet students for coffee and chat about their career paths.
Contact SIS Career, siscareer@american.edu, for more information.
Hire SIS Students
Many of our students rely on their alumni connections to get jobs and internships in the field. You may have a similar story yourself, from when you were a student! If you have opportunities that current students would be interested in, share those opportunities with our employer relations activities! Even if you aren't the one hiring, help students grow their skills and make those important connections through employer activities.
Host a Site Visit
Industry Site Visits are in-person visits at the office of an industry employer. These educational trips offer students the opportunity to meet with professionals at an organization, learn more about that organizations work and opportunities, and prepare to engage in professional workspaces before entering their careers.
In the past we've visited:
- Brookings Institution
- D3 Systems
- American Bar Association, Rule of Law Initiative
- McLarty Associates
- World Resources Institute, and many more
We rely on our alumni to help us identify and work with their employers to host successful Site Visits. If you think a trip to your company's office would be beneficial to our students, let us know! We'd love to come and see where you work!Â
