Jewish Studies Internships
The Jewish Studies Program's internship offers students the opportunity to improve organizational skills and gain work experience in a variety of settings throughout the Washington Jewish community: museums, political and activist organizations, community centers, archives, philanthropic funds, and Israeli groups. Students will earn academic credits while contributing needed services to organizations or institutions. In recent years, Jewish Studies has placed students in the Anti-Defamation League, Seeds of Peace, the Jewish Community Center, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Hadassah, B'nai B'rith, and other such organizations.
Interns will keep a journal reflecting upon activities, the organization, and what the internship teaches about Jewish communal life. Students will also compile a portfolio of all materials produced during the internship. This portfolio will comprise of all written work such as memoranda, letters, reports, charts, and other written assignments.
Since Washington, D.C., is a center of Jewish organizational life, internships with over 60 local Jewish organizations devoted to community relations, religious activities, Israel, social welfare, and so on are offered for credit. The number of credits earned depends upon the number of hours of work. Students register for an internship after consultation with the Jewish Studies Program Director.
Students have the opportunity to intern with general organizations, religious organizations, and social service agencies.
