Bio
Dr. Sung Ryung Lyu is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at American University, having earned her doctoral degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Penn State University. Her research primarily focuses on multicultural education and critical pedagogy within early childhood education, employing critical educational ethnography. She is particularly interested in exploring the lived experiences of ECEC educators to understand how they localize curriculum and educational policies related to multicultural education, with the goal of developing professional development programs that foster critical consciousness. In addition to her work on critical pedagogy, she has a strong interest in research methodologies, particularly focusing on post-qualitative approaches. Dr. Lyu is an active participant in both the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Reconceptualizing Early Childhood Education (RECE) conference.
