Community Voice Lab Director Laura Waters Hinson’s new feature-length documentary film, Project Home, debuted on streaming services on September 26. The film can currently be rented or purchased on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, Microsoft, Spectrum, and YouTube.

Project Home follows the innovators at New Story, Icon, and Habitat for Humanity, who are developing communities and building houses using 3D printing technology. The film documents the stories of two single working mothers who are able to buy their first homes thanks to this innovative technology. One lives in an impoverished village in Mexico where New Story and Icon are building a community of 3D-printed houses, and the other lives in Virginia, where Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring her new home. The film shows how community, entrepreneurship, and innovation can transform the housing sector. Hinson discussed the film earlier this year in an appearance on American University School of Communication’s Media in the Mix podcast.

Hinson involved Community Voice Lab Fellows and other graduate students throughout the production process, including filming on location in Williamsburg, Virginia. These experiential learning opportunities are a vital component of the Community Voice Lab’s methodology and community partnerships. Ìý
