Bio
John Weiskopf teaches screenwriting at American University in the SOC, where he has taught in the MFA Film program for twelve years. He received an MFA in Film Production from UCLA where he was later on UCLA’s extension faculty. He appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show for a documentary on elderly abuse. John produced, directed and shot the film, it aired on WTBS and PBS. It was his master's thesis at UCLA. While at UCLA, he additionally co-produced and co-wrote a documentary on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which aired on prime-time PBS. He has written eleven motion picture screenplays, four which were optioned, and two episodic television series pilots and proposals. Currently, one feature film script is in active development in Hollywood, his credits are story, screenwriter, and producer. He has an unlimited episodic television proposal entitled ASCEND in active development in Los Angeles; it based upon his novel THE ASCENDANCY for which he did a book signing tour for Barnes and Noble. He is rewriting his novel with new elements from the episodic series. John is represented by well-known literary film agent in Hollywood and an entertainment attorney. Besides teaching and working in the film business as a producer and screenwriter, he is fly fisherman and woodworker. He owns a home in Gaithersburg, Maryland with his wife who is teacher and currently studying and researching for her doctorate at a well-known local college.
