Bio
Lyn Stallings is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at American University. She served as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies from 2011 to 2016. In her role as Vice Provost, she launched new honors and scholars programs and led the development of AU’s transfer articulation database. Lyn served as chair of the Faculty Senate in 2009 and Past Chair in 2010. She received the American University Award for Outstanding Service (2010) for her work in coordinating the revision of the Faculty Manual. She has been awarded the Mathematical Association of America's Regional Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics (1998) and the American University Award for Outstanding Teaching (1994). Before coming to the university, Lyn taught mathematics for grades 8 through 12 in the Louisiana Public School System. She was designated the 1987 Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching for her work in training teachers to adopt innovative methods in geometry and algebra. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi specializing in secondary mathematics education and research. Lyn's research interests are in quantitative literacy in higher education, authentic assessment, student self-evaluation, and writing in mathematics.
