Bio
Mary Markakis earned a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from Syracuse University, an M.A. in Literature from George Mason University, and an MFA in Writing from George Mason University. She’s also studied and/or received graduate certificates in Gender and Sexuality, Cultural Studies, and Film Theory. Her research has focused on representations of gender and race in contemporary film, as well as the role of visual narratives in social justice and reform. Additional academic interests include philosophy & ideology, political dystopian fiction, and the role of mass media in society.
