- Dr. Gotea was born and raised in Brasov, Romania where she earned her BA degree specializing in Eugene Ionesco's theater of the absurd. Right after earning her degree, she went to Penn State to pursue her master’s and PhD degrees. During her master’s program she spent a year in Strasbourg, France, teaching English and pursuing a DEA degree. In order to advance her doctoral research, she did extensive library and archival research in Montpellier, Paris, and Brussels. Dr. Gotea earned her PhD with a thesis titled "Cocteau entre deux guerres : Le Potomak, Les Eugènes de la guerre et La Fin du Potomak." After receiving her PhD, Dr. Gotea worked for a year at American University. After a hiatus from teaching to raise a family, in 2016 she returned to American University where she is now.
